About OTTO prices and shipping: they do have a program similar to Amazon Prime where you pay 10€ a year and all orders that are shipped by OTTO directly (marketplace items not included, just like with Amazon) are shipped for free. The fun/weird thing is that for orders you collect points which you can use for a discount later and by paying the 10€ for one year of free shipping you get points that equal a 10€ which you can immediately use for your first order, so in a way free shipping is indeed completely free.

I don’t want to discourage anyone from helping OSM using StreetComplete or other apps, but you should be aware that this is an open source project and your edits are public. If you walk around in your neighborhood and contribute opening times or whatever, those edits can be seen on a map along with your username and can in many cases be used to narrow down the neighborhood you live in, depending on your behavior. So if you’re concerned about privacy, make sure you use a random generic username that you don’t use anywhere else when signing up, so people googling your username from social media for example can’t locate you just based on that name.

Babbel is pretty good and made in Germany. There’s no free/ad-financed version though, only a free trial period before you gotta pay. There’s not a whole lot of gamification but it has a streak mechanism like Duolingo which is enough to keep me practicing daily.

Bestenfalls sind überhaupt keine Wirkstoffe drin (z.B. Zahncreme ohne Fluorid, also im Grunde nur Schaum mit Geschmack), schlimmstenfalls halt irgendein Müll, und das ganze lassen sie sich natürlich noch gut bezahlen.

Unfortunately the last bulk I bought was from Amazon a year ago but I just checked and Otto has them too. Although don’t expect them to be “original” Bundeswehr socks, I have no idea if they have ever been purchased by the German army, and searching for “German army socks” gives you tons of different results. Anyway I found these are very durable, comfortable and dirt cheap, so can recommend them. :)

I’ve spend a lot on fancy high tech trekking socks for outdoor stuff (like 20€ a pair) before I discovered German army socks that are just as good but sold in bulk for like 2-3€ a pair, very comfortable and stretchy so they fit multiple sizes. They’re probably not to your taste but I just checked the company selling them and they also have these more civil looking and advertised as extra wide comfort socks for like 5€ a pair, might be worth a try.

Was that before or after their “digitalization” offensive? Apparently the old CEO was fired after like a hundred years of running the company because he opposed anything technology and apparently didn’t even own a computer himself, the new one did very sharp turnaround according to the video.

Haha yeah that’s what I thought, but on the other hand Amazon started as a book store, so why not a grocery discounter. 🤷‍♂️

Couple of big companies like banks are already using their services because they’re hosted in Germany and Austria and comply with GDPR, I think that’s a huge selling point. Question is if they’ll go public and make their services available for everyone, not just big businesses.

If you like expensive wool stuff Steinkauz is another German company making outdoor clothes from wool.

Quick search says Thüros and Asamodo are made in Germany, but if you enough garden space and it doesn’t need to be mobile I’d recommend just building your own permanent BBQ for super cheap, all you need is some bricks and mortar or even just some rocks for a fire pit and a tripod, it’s a fun little project and also way more fun to grill that way. ;)
