There’s some really great suggestions here, I’ll add a few as well. I’ll start with some newer stuff, will be piano and organ heavy, but that’s what my husband plays so we tend to listen to that a lot. You should use this as a good way to meet your neighbours! Pop over and ask what they’re playing. Enjoy exploring the world of jazz, its mighty fun :)
The Bad Plus
GoGo Penguin
Bill Laurance
EST (Esbjörn Svensson Trio)
Bill Frisell (more guitar, has a bit of bluegrass. Blues Dream is one of my all time favourite albums)
Billie Holiday (really can’t go wrong with anything from her)
Dave Brubeck- Take Five (classic album)
Kieth Jarrett- Koln Concert (another fav)
Etta James - At Last (her voice! Amazing!)
I’ll probably be back to add some more haha.
Edit - thanks for the rec with the Spotify link! Really liking that.
Edit 2 - my husband suggested Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz, def more in the realm of beats.
I don’t know how to explain it, but you can feel the difference. If it’s lost, you know it, but if you’ve misplaced it, it still feels nearby.
Affinity!! I’m trying to get my work to switch over. We only use InDesign, Illustrator, and acrobat so could be an easy switch, but it’s the acrobat part that’s the hard one.
It’s because they are washed in a different way than the rest of the world.
That’s interesting as PL-259 is the standard for marine use. I wish we had something better
Same! That and rocks.
The marine service industry has a higher than average amount of neurodivergent folk in it. I figure it’s because every day is different and you absolutely have to be able to be creative in your thinking, boats are weird like that.
The instructor I have teaching at this exact moment was a red seal chef, he’s now a red seal welder, teaching first year apprentices metalwork. Sometimes you just need a change.
I did at my wedding, but it wasn’t like it was a big thing. It was something personal that I did for myself.
Eh, true enough. But I love singing it anyways!
I used to do sail washing and we would store the sails in this giant wooden rack. All the spinnakers went in a big pile on the top. Me and my buds would take turns having naps up there while we waited for the sails to dry. That was the best winter job.
Portugal. The Man’s video for All Your Light is freaking weird. Complete with human heads in shopping bags, trailer parks, and what I think are aliens.
Only on android unfortunately.
Boris, Tu-Ba-Bou, Miss Moneypenny. You were so very loved.
I used to pass under the electronic sign that tells you how full the ferry is every day on the way to work. Every day I would think I could just go straight and keep going. And then I’d turn and head to work. Sigh.
Fair enough! I would totally feel the same.
I can confirm the durability! I had a 89 240 wagon, went cross country three times with it. It eventually met its end when I was car number 9 in a 13 car pile up. Total write off. But after all the smashing and spinning around, none of the three of us were injured and I had to turn the car off. I miss that car a lot.
I was flying from Calgary to Phoenix to visit family and it was a later flight, but still pretty packed. They were getting ready to close the plane and leave the gate and the seat next to me was still empty! I was stoked! When all of a sudden this lady came busting into the plane, she made it with seconds to spare. I’m watching her walk down the aisle and of course she ends up sitting next to me. Oh well. I put my headphones on and stared out the window while the plane takes off.
After a bit my album ended and I went to get a snack out of my bag. Now, when the lady had sat down she immediately put her head in her hands and just stayed that way till she could put the tray down, then she rested her head on her arms. You could just tell she was so torn up and sad. So I got my snack (chocolate covered blueberries) and she sat up a bit, so I offered her some. Well, that started a conversation I will never forget as long as I live. We both were in these crazy situations that were so alike, it was uncanny. And that no one in our normal lives really could understand or help with. Yet there we were, able to be that comfort and support we so desperately needed. We talked nonstop for the rest of the trip. The rest of the plane vanished and we were in our own zone.
When we landed we walked through the airport together to get our luggage and parted ways at the baggage carousel. We didn’t get each others numbers, just a hug and a thank you. I hope she’s doing ok. Sometimes the universe puts you exactly where you need to be, like it did for us that night. Thank you lady from 32B, I will never forget you.
Well, we’ve got to cut rounds and split wood for the winter. Shut down is coming soon and if we don’t get it done in time then it’s at least September before we can run gas engines again. We have six trees that came down this winter and last so at least they’re at our level. I’ve got to finish up an outline, worksheet, and slides for a class I’m teaching on Monday, and I haven’t really started tbh. Then visit a friend for the last time in palliative care Sunday night. Just came from there, was good to see her if even for 5 mins. Somewhere in there I have to deal with my estranged dad and brother too. It’s been a hell of a week.
Tonight though, I’m putting comfy pants on and playing divinity 2 with my husband.
